Course objectives: This course is designed to help students acquire an intermediate level of

proficiency in French. By the end of the semester, you will have enlarged your vocabulary and reviewed most of the grammatical structures covered during the 101/102 classes. You will also be exposed to as many aspects of French culture as possible.

In order to reach these goals, you will need to study new material daily before you do your written assignments. You are expected to spend at least two hours studying for each hour spent in class.

Course policies: You are required to attend all classes. Only three excused or unexcused absences

will be allowed during the semester. If you are absent more than three times, each additional absence will reduce your participation grade by 10 points.

Students who miss a class are responsible for keeping up with all work and assignments done in class that day. At the teacher’s discretion, repeated tardiness will count as an unexcused absence.

No make-up tests will be given. If you miss a test your final will count 10% more.

You cannot miss more than one test. In the event of an emergency during the semester, call me or email me as soon as possible. If an emergency causes you to miss a test, you must call me before the exam, otherwise a grade of 0 will be assigned.

Assignments:   You will be asked to write paragraphs and short stories in French during the semester.
