Campus Recreation Facilities

CRS Fitness Center

2nd Floor Stern Student Center
The Fitness Center is a 2000 sq. ft. facility featuring nine TRUE treadmills, nine TRUE elliptical trainers, a combination of nine upright and recumbent exercise bikes, a full circuit of Free Motion selectorized resistance training equipment, and a small complement of dumbbells and medicine balls.

Silcox Indoor Running Track

When the weather is uncooperative, you can always count on this little gem awaiting you (14.5 laps per mile).

CRS Weight Room

East Shore Athletic Club on Wentworth Street
Through a new arrangement, students with a valid Cougar Card may use the East Shore facility. 24-hour access is also available. The facility includes both cardio equipment and a variety of selectorized strength training equipment and free weights.

Johnson and Silcox Centers

Two proud gymnasiums combine to form one large activity center that serves our campus. The F. Mitchell Johnson Physical Education Center built in 1981 and the Willard Silcox Physical Education and Health Center renovated in 1995 occupy the corner of George and Meeting Streets.

Housed in these gymnasiums are four basketball courts, three volleyball courts, six badminton courts, a space for indoor soccer, an indoor running track, locker and shower areas, and five racquetball courts will be added by 2009.

Swimming Pool

The Stern Center houses the 25-meter swimming pool. With a busy schedule of classes and varsity swim team events, a limited number of recreational swim times continue to be available. Contact the aquatics director at 953-5960 to find out about scheduling matters.

Dance Studio

Located in the Robert Scott Small Building is a 1500 sq. ft. dance studio used extensively for dance classes and CRS sport club practices. Room reservations must first be obtained by groups looking to use this space. Contact the CRS Director for reservation requests.

Outdoor Fields

A short drive from campus is our 12-acre outdoor recreation site located adjacent to the James Island County Park. "The Yard", as we call it, serves the CRS intramural sports leagues and the CRS sport clubs.
