Students are meeting at the Sanddollar at the end of Folly Road. All students are encouraged to volenteeer thier services to facilitate the race. Thrity volunteers are needed at the race in the morning so that the finish line for our race will be donated to us (Race volunteers need to be there at 7 am and should be done around 11)

The MESSA student organization will be meeting after the race between 12 and 1 at James Island County Park for a field day.

Native Species Workshop

Are you interested in native species and organic gardening? Did you know that there is an organic, native species garden located right on the College of Charleston's campus? Last spring, a native species garden was planted behind the Political Science/Green Building on 114 Wentworth Street. This project was completed by students, faculty, and community members, and serves as a model for urban native species and organic and sustainable gardening.

And now YOU can get involved! Mark your calenders now to join us on Saturday, February 19th starting at 9 a.m. for a CofC gardening day, where we will be out in the Native Species Garden planting new plants, transplanting old plants, and just getting the garden ready for a successful spring. ALL ARE WELCOME!

MESSA 8K for H2O

This is the Third Annual Master of Environmental Studies Student Association (MESSA) 8K Run/Walk to preserve and improve water quality in the Charleston area. All proceeds from this race will be donated to the Lowcountry Earth Force and their Global Rivers Environmental Education Network (GREEN) program. This program provides elementary through high school-aged youth with the skills, knowledge, and resources to preserve and improve the quality of rivers, creeks, and streams that flow into the Charleston Harbor and ocean.

Grants Workshop

Barbara Gray, Director of Research & Grants Administration at the College of Charleston, will present a workshop for MES students on grant proposal basics.

Barbara will provide an overview of the grant seeking process, including identifying funding opportunities, writing proposals for community service and educational programs, preparing research proposals, budgeting, and peer review. Attendees will leave the workshop with a basic knowledge of the process for seeking different types of grants, the elements of proposals, and information on additional resources on grant seeking and proposal writing.

Refreshments will be served.

In addition to downloading your Application for Graduation, you will find information about what you will need to do if you plan to take part in the Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 13, 2005 (including such items as what color hood to ask for when ordering your MES regalia at the bookstore: Gold).

Also - remember that the final, completed copies of your theses or
internship reports must be submitted by the close of business on
Wednesday, May 4th, 2005. This means that you should plan to hold your defense by April 20th at the latest, in order to leave time for final
corrections, etc.
