The Classical Archaeology Fund

The Göksu Archaeological Project (GAP) is a five-year archaeological and architectural survey of the Upper Göksu River Valley in south-central Turkey.  The project participants form an annual staff of some 40 archaeologists, specialists, and graduate and undergraduate students from the United States, United Kingdom, Turkey, Germany, and elsewhere.

Generous contributions have been made by the British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara, the College of Charleston, and private benefactors.  Private donations contribute towards meeting our direct costs which include travel, room and board, permit fees, and equipment, as well as being crucial in establishing matching funds for federal grants such as the NEH and NSF.   The Classical Archaeology Fund was established in November of 2003 by the Department of Classics at the College of Charleston in order to receive gifts from individuals, corporations, and businesses, with the purpose of providing support for the research objectives of GAP.  Contributions are not used for indirect costs, salaries, wages, or honoraria of senior project personnel.  While specific and targeted contributions are welcome, unspecified donations are also appreciated and will be expended as needed by the project.
