Greenhouse Gas Assesment of the
College of Charleston

Global warming is a salient issue in the 21st century. While this issue has failed to be addressed at the national level in the United States, local communities and institutions have taken it upon themselves to address this pressing problem.

The College of Charleston has joined the ranks of insitutions of higher learning to analyze this issue. Colleges and universities can be microcosims of the community as a whole, and as such have the ability to inlfuence and set an example for local and state governments. With an enrollment of 11,000 people, the College of Charleston represents 12% of the Charleston community. Actions taken by the College have the potential to make noticeable differences within this community.

The City of Charleston has also had a greenhouse gas audit completed, using software that is part of the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Campaign. You can download that paper here.
