HELLO FROM SOUTH CAROLINA... |
One of these mornings,
You're gonna rise up singing |
--Summertime, George Gershwin |
Dear Music Lover:
Welcome to the South Carolina Music Hall of Fame Initiative Web site. We're honored that you stumbled upon us and hope you will find some items of interest.
Historically, Charleston was the black music cradle of Colonial America, and South Carolina a place where African and European artforms mingled with Hispanic, Native American, Asian and other influences.
Early musicians of the Palmetto State were essential in shaping and blending these influences into new, distinctly American forms of music - Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, Country, Rock'n'Roll and many more. Countless others continued to make vital contributions to Classical, Choral, Opera and other European traditions as well.
Today, South Carolina is home to internationally recognized musicians of all stripes - those who stem from traditional genres and others who embrace new forms such as Rap, Hip Hop, Indie Rock, Avant Garde, and beyond.
We hope you will join The South Carolina Music Hall of Fame Initiative as we preserve and promote the music and musicians of the Palmetto State through the lens of this rich and evolving legacy.
And please feel free to contact us with ideas, suggestions, and new music discoveries.
Sincerely,
Stanfield Gray
