The duties of the Laboratory Manager as outlined in the official job description.
- Serves as the health and safety officer for the marine lab.
- Maintains the laboratory’s facilities. Serves as the liaison with physical plant.
- Management of GML shop and small boat operations.
- Maintains the aquarium room.
- Supervises student workers, handyman, and grounds maintenance personnel.
- Assists in the management of GML systematic collection of fishes and invertebrates.
- Assists in preparing teaching laboratories at GML. (Note: The Laboratory Manager sees that the teaching laboratories are maintained in a neat and orderly manner, ready for instructors to set up labs. The Laboratory Manager is not responsible for prepping teaching labs.)
- Effect the establishment and maintenance of common supply and equipment storage areas.
- Maintains capital equipment and supplies⁄equipment for teaching and research functions.
- Maintains records of keys and gate cards and issues same.
- Assists the director in planning and executing renovations.
- Orders supplies and equipment for faculty and graduate students.
- Assists the laboratory director in maintaining the budget for supplies and equipment.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of capital equipment.
