Injuries and Medical Emergencies
If a serious medical emergency occurs, you should dial 9 (for an outside line) and then 911 and administer first aid (if you are qualified) until the first responders arrive.
Safety is the responsibility of everyone and it is very important to report all potentially dangerous situations to the lab manager immediately. All injuries must be reported to the lab manager regardless of severity. This includes near miss situations where an injury did not actually occur. A protocol assessment must be done to minimize the risk of injury. All federal labs (CCEHBR, HML, NIST) have time sensitive injury reporting requirements so it is important to report the injury immediately after it occurs.
All registered students, undergraduates and graduates, can be treated through Heath Services. They are located at 181 Calhoun Street behind the old Robert Scott Smalls Library. Employees or students injured while working must contact either Human Resources or Health Services for a referral to Worksite Partners located at 2741 Speissegger Drive, Suite 203, in North Charleston. Worksite Partners is the designated physician for the College’s Workers’ Compensation Program. Transportation arrangements can be made in most non-emergency situations. In an emergency situation or if Worksite Partners does NOT have a doctor on duty, you will be referred to the Emergency Room at Roper Hospital.
