Background:
WILLIAM OLEJNICZAK (France, European Social and Cultural) received his Ph.D. from Duke University in 1983. He came to the College of Charleston in 1987 and has taught as a Visiting Professor at the University of Versailles/Saint-Quentin in France. He has published in the Journal of Social History and the Journal of Policy History and is working on a comparative social and cultural study of the able-bodied poor in France and England from 1660-1840 and a survey of the Enlightenment, Revolutionary and Napoleonic Eras. He has taught courses on the Enlightenment, Revolutionary and French Revolution, modern Europe labor history, 19th and 20th century France, and is developing interests in recent European history and the European Union. He served as director of the M.A. Program from 1994-1998. He is Director of the European Studies Program at the College of Charleston and regularly conducts study abroad programs
