What is your academic background?

Kate:
"B.A. in History and Classical Studies from Tulane University."

Joi: I have a BA in History from Elon University

What do you see yourself doing five years from now?

Kate: " Working on my Ph.d."

Joi: I hope that I will be in a Ph.D program by that time.

Hobbies or Interests?

Kate: "Reading! Cooking, kite flying, and jet skis."

Joi: Reading of course. Also writing, exercising and traveling.

Favorite Quote?

Joi:
"But to look beyond the glory is the hardest part
for a heros strength is measured by his hear"

...Disney's Hercules

Why did you choose the College of Charleston Graduate History Program?

Kate:
Because I love Charleston!

Joi: I had done research on Charleston's free black community a couple of years ago which made me really interested in the city. When it came time to think about graduate programs CofC seemed like a great choice to continue in my research area.

What has been the best part of your work here in the graduate program?

Kate:
"Diving into archives all over the city for various professors and learning about tombs from Dr. Piccione.
"

Joi: I really enjoy getting to know different faculty members in the history department especially those I haven't had a class with.

What is one thing that no one knows about you?

Kate:
"I like to do my homework on the beach. Although I'm sure everyone figures that out when sand falls out of my books in class."

Joi: I am absolutely addicted to reading.  Unfortunately that doesn't always include the academic books that we are assigned.  I've definitely had to learn how to juggle.
