College of Charleston Exhibit Features WWII Vets’ On Concentration Camp Liberation

Five Charleston-area World War II veterans are featured in an exhibit opening November 12 at the College of Charleston. “Through Their Eyes—Concentration Camp Liberation As Seen By American GIs” honors veterans who witnessed conditions in German concentration camps in the spring of 1945. Also honored are veterans whose military units participated in the follow-up to liberation.
Area veterans included are W.N. “Buck” Boyles and Henry Smith, both of Mt. Pleasant; Mason S.“Mickey” Dorsey of Seabrook Island; and Bernard Warshaw of Walterboro. Also the late Heyward Shealey, Charleston. They are among 16 veterans whose photographs, documents, and “spoils of war” are shown.
The exhibit is located at the entrance of the Special Collections Department, on the third floor of the Addlestone Library, at the College of Charleston. The library is at 205 Calhoun Street, Charleston. The exhibit will be at the Addlestone Library from November 12 through the end of January, 2008.
