Seventeen of the 26 committee members were in attendance: Hugh Haynsworth (chair), Myrtle Riggs, Susan Morrison, Henry Donato, Sam Hines, Frances Welch, Abdellatif Attafi, Steve Gibson, Mike Vinson, Sam Stafford, Nancy Sorenson, Jane Clary, Debbie Vaughn, Harry Freeman, Shana Thomas, Leigh Wood, Maxine Martin

After considerable discussion, the committee addressed the charge of the committee as follows:

1. The committee will plan to meet monthly, 7:30-9:00 a.m. On the second Wednesday of each month, beginning May 12.

2. Four subcommittees were suggested at this time, with others to be added as needed. Volunteers formed the two subcommittees with immediate tasks.

   1. Defining Culture: Sam Hines (chair), Harry Freeman, Myrtle Riggs, Nancy Sorenson, Abdellatif Attafi
      Charge: To review the literature and provide a working definition of the phrase 'culture of the college' to guide decisions on how to proceed

   2. Documents: Hugh Haynsworth (chair), Henry Donato, Steve Gibson, Debbie Vaughn, Leigh Wood
      Charge: To assemble copies of documents that will assist the committee

   3. Survey: TBA
      Charge: To oversee the process of conducting an appropriate survey of the constituent groups of the college to measure the campus climate and culture

   4. Describing Cultures and Stakeholders: TBA
      Charge: To describe the culture of the college from the viewpoint of its various constituents who have an identified stake in the future of the college

3. The committee requested the following resources:

   1. Survey design and administration expertise
   2. Funding for a survey instrument and committee reports
   3. An e-mail list serve
   4. Modest breakfast meeting support
