Goal Statements
Preamble
The following Goal Statements are based on the report of the Long Range Planning Coordinating Committee (LRPCC) that was approved by the Board of Trustees in July 2000. The LRPCC has also adopted an Overarching Vision Statement, expressing the College’s aspiration to become “a nationally preeminent public liberal arts and sciences university dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education.” The Goal Statements are to be interpreted within the context of this Overarching Vision Statement and the more detailed Vision Statement adopted by the Board of Trustees in July 2000. Implementation of the Long Range Plan will be based on objectives and strategies designed to address each goal statement in a manner consistent with the aspiration of the College as expressed in the Overarching Vision Statement.

1) The College of Charleston's undergraduate program will emphasize a broad liberal education, achieved through a comprehensive and coherent general education curriculum for all its students, which is supported by high quality discipline-based, interdisciplinary, and international programs.

2) The College of Charleston will recruit and retain a diverse faculty of innovative and intellectually engaged and engaging teacher-scholars.

3) The College of Charleston will recruit and retain a highly qualified and diverse student body.

4) The College of Charleston will recruit and retain a highly qualified and diverse staff.

5) The College of Charleston will provide a wide array of active curricular and co-curricular learning and enrichment experiences for its students.

6) The College of Charleston will provide graduate and professional programs that are primarily designed to meet the needs of the local community, the Low Country, and the State.

7) The College of Charleston will maintain a student-oriented approach in its programs, processes, and services, so that each student becomes and remains connected to the College.

8) The College of Charleston will link its planning, assessment, and budgeting activities and allocate resources in a manner consistent with its commitment to quality in all of its programs and to national stature in select programs.

9) The College of Charleston will foster a culture that values civility, promotes collegiality, and embraces cultural, geographical, and intellectual diversity.

10) The College of Charleston will develop and maintain strong, collegial, and sustainable relationships with external constituencies vital to the future of the institution.

11) The College of Charleston will develop and maintain strong relationships with parents, alumni, and friends of the College.

12) The College of Charleston will preserve and enhance its facilities and historic campus.
