STRATEGIC PLANNING IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

The Board of Trustees is grateful for the outstanding efforts of all associated with the first phase of the Long Range & Strategic Planning Process and commends all involved in the effort.

The Board has received the Report and Executive Summary, endorses the fundamental concepts contained in these documents, and, accordingly, hereby adopts the attached Vision Statement for the College of Charleston.

In order to assure that the process gives rise to meaningful results for the College, the Board would ask that the Long Range Planning Coordinating Committee or a successor committee to be constituted by the President begin the second phase of the planning process, which is to establish a strategy to implement the newly adopted Vision Statement. The process should remain inclusive and, therefore, the Committee should seek the input and advice of the major constituent groups (i.e., faculty, students, and staff) necessary for successful implementation of this vision statement.

The Board recognizes that this is a dynamic process; however, the Board would ask that the Committee develop its preliminary implementation strategy by May 15, 2001. Using the Vision Statement as a guide, this strategy should include the following:

  1. Identification of the key indicators that exemplify a "nationally preeminent Public Liberal Arts and Sciences University for the 21st Century."
  2. Recommended measures or standards for these key indicators.
  3. Initial proposals for actions that will meet these measures and satisfy these indicators.

Adopted by College of Charleston Board of Trustees (July 26, 2000)
