Long Range Planning Coordinating Committee
Meeting Notes from October 20, 1998

Process for the work of the LRPCC:

This will complete the first level of the planning process.

The single biggest challenge for this committee will be to facilitate these discussions in a way that does not reflect our own personal opinions or biases or appear to be steering the constituency groups towards or way from any particular vision or scenario for the college. And yet it is vitally important that we as a committee facilitate thoughtful analysis by the constituents and not merely opinions that do not consider the consequences of those opinions.

The Process Recommended by the Consultant and the President

I. Gather Information Concerning

A. The External Environment:
Economic
Political
Social
Demographic
Technological
Legal
Educational
Competitive

B. Internal Strengths and Challenges:
Finance
Facilities
Programs
Enrollment
Human Resources

C. Culture and Values of the College

II. Provide the above information to all constituencies

III. Collect ideas and recommendations from all constituencies

The above process constitutes the First Level of Strategic Planning and will take one year to complete.

Level Two is the College-Wide Planning Process which will take approximately 8 months to one year.

Level Three is the Departmental Strategic Planning to support the Institutional Plan. This process will take approximately 6 months to one year.
