For:
- Language teachers, current and future
- Advanced undergraduate language students
- Other professionals interested in languages, FL Teaching Methods, or Linguistics
The School of Languages and the School of Education of the College of Charleston jointly offer coursework leading to a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Languages. The program is intended for advanced students of languages and cultures who seek intellectual and professional growth through study and research at the graduate level. The M. Ed is a multi-track degree, with concentrations in Spanish, French, or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). (*The Latin track may be reinstated at a future date. Please contact the program director or Classics Department Chair if interested.)
The M.Ed. is a part-time program (1-2 courses per semester), open both to degree-seeking students and those who merely wish to continue language study at a higher level. Although it is a degree in Education, the M.Ed does not lead to initial teacher certification in South Carolina.
While the majority of students are in-service teachers or people returning to teaching, the program is attractive to anyone who wishes to improve skills and knowledge in the language area of choice. Because most students in the program are working professionals, classes are offered in the late afternoon, evening, or summer.
