DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Welcome...

Welcome to the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship at the College of Charleston.  The 16 faculty members of the Department include people with extensive business experience, award-winning teachers, and award-winning researchers, all of whom are committed to bringing our students some of the best business education possible.  Our group of 6 full-time Entrepreneurship faculty is the largest of any purely undergraduate institution in the United States.

As the “home Department” to the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree, our general course offerings begin with MGMT 301 (Management and Organizational Behavior) and end with MGMT 408 (Business Policy), the capstone course for the major.  Along the way we offer a wide selection of business courses, including those in two Concentrations:

  • Entrepreneurship Concentration:  Approved in 2007, this Concentration includes Introduction to Entrepreneurship (ENTR 320) and New Venture Planning (ENTR 321) as its core courses, with additional electives available to complete the 18-hour requirement for the Concentration.  Please see www.cofcentrepreneurship.com for a more complete description.
  • Leadership, Change, and Social Responsibility Concentration: Approved in 2005, this Concentration includes four foundation courses, MGMT 301, MGMT 345 (Leadership), MGMT 350 (Business, Leadership, & Society), and MGMT 401 (Organizational Behavior), with electives available to complete the 18-hour requirement for the Concentration.

Our students are involved in organizations that enhance their experiences and educations.  These include an ongoing Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team that has achieved an excellent competition record in a very short time; a Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) chapter currently being organized; and a Human Resources Club, being organized in affiliation with the Trident Area Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM).  The Department also offers a wide variety of Internship placements, and has for two years sent a team to the Venture Adventure, a major national business plan competition for undergraduate students.
