Public Events at the College of Charleston Observatory

Venus Transit

Public Open Houses are held one night per month during the academic of the month during the acdemic year. The last Public Open House for this year will be held Thursday, 8 May 2008. We will resume open houses in September.

Thursday, 8 May 2008 8:00 - 10:00 PM
Weather permitting, the observatory and observing deck will be open to the public. Enter the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center via the Coming Street entrance and follow signs to the roof. If the weather is bad, we will still have plenty of activities to keep you educated and informed. The Society of Physics Students will have several demonstrations set up and will be happy to assist or entertain you. Faculty and students will be happy to answer any questions you have about astronomy, telescopes, and what's up in the sky this month. If you plan to bring a large group (10 or more), or if you will need special accommodations, please let us know ahead of time by contacting Chris True (truec@cofc.edu, 843-953-2031).

Open-toed shoes are not permitted on the observing deck. Please dress warmly (it can be several degrees cooler and much windier on the roof than at ground level).
