| What do the New Student Mentors do? |
The mentors work one on one with new students, present workshops on topics of interest to new students, such as money management and how to get along with a roommate; visit Freshman Seminar and other classes to discuss these topics; publish an online newsletter for new students; and assist other departments with various activities to help make new students' adjustment to the College of Charleston easier.

to spend up to 10 hours a month in this position.

New Student Mentors |
| Duties |
During
the summer:
- Assist
with the provisional student meeting during the first day
of orientation
During
the school year:
- Write
two articles per semester for the Freshman Year Informer -
the online newsletter for new students
- Plan
and present workshops for students on topics regarding student
success in college
- Contact provisional student via email
- Assist with the SUCCESS workshops
- Assist
with events of the New Student programs office
- Assist
other departments with events
- Lead
discussions in Freshman Seminar classes when requested by
faculty
You
will be required to attend meetings once a month to discuss
provisional student issues and plan events.

| Qualifications |
- Should
be a Office of New Student Programs Orientation Intern
- Should
have completed 30 semester hours
- Should
have a GPA of 2.5 or above
- Should
have up to 10 hours a month to commit to the program
- Should
be knowledgeable of the school
- Should
be willing to work with students on issues regarding the first
year in College of Charleston in a caring and sensitive manner

designed to let new students know what's going on around campus
and how to get involved. It includes important dates and deadlines. The Growl is written by upperclassmen,
the New Student Mentors, who share their strategies for success
and enjoying their time at the College.
