Charlie Post
Memorial
Scholarship
Any student who enters the Athletic Training or Exercise
Science concentration
has the opportunity to apply for the Charlie Post Memorial Scholarship
of $1,500.00. Dr. Post was head of our student health services, a
tri-athlete, and a staunch supporter of the field of sports
medicine.
Each year the Charleston Running Club sponsors a run in his honor to
fund
this prestigious scholarship. The Department of Physical
Education
and Health and the Department of Biology are the only two disciplines
from
which a student may apply for this scholarship. This scholarship
rewards academic excellence and the promotion of sports medicine.
Applications are taken in the SPRING for the following year and are
available
in the Financial Assistance Office from mid-February through late
March.
Department of
Physical Education
and Health Scholarship
Undergraduate students may apply for the Department of
Physical Education and Health Scholarship if they are declared Physical
Education majors and meet the following minimum qualifications: 1)
Completion at least 9 hours of their major core requirements, 2) An
overall GPA of 3.00 or above, 3) Membership in one of the student
majorís clubs, 4) Show their involvement in professional
activities over the past 12 months, 5) Write a one page (150-200 word)
essay, and 6) Enrollment as a full time student during their award
period. The scholarship is not based upon financial need. The
amount awarded per year can range up to $350.00. Applications are
available from the secretary within the Department of Physical
Education and Health and are due by April 1st for Fall awards, and by
October 15th for Spring awards. The scholarship is in effect for
the following school year.

Departmental Honors
1. The student must have completed at least 30 hours of
their major
course work at the College of Charleston and hold senior status.
2. The student must have an overall GPA of 3.50 or above.
3. The student should be active in the affairs and
activities of at
least one of the student majorís clubs.
4. The student should be a member of the State Student
Association (SCSA)
of the South Carolina Alliance for Health, Physical Education,
Recreation
and Dance (SCAHPERD), or be a student member of another professionally
related organization.
5. The student should serve as a role model in terms of a
healthy lifestyle.
Outstanding Student Award
1. The student must have completed at least 30 hours of
their major
course work at the College of Charleston and hold senior status.
2. The student must have an overall GPA of 3.00 or above.

Special Award
Any declared Physical Education major who displays
exceptional character,
behavior and/or performance may be honored by the faculty within the
Department
of Physical Education and Health by receiving a Special Award. The
criteria
for this award is open, as it symbolizes a truly remarkable achievement
by a student.
