Graduate Assistantships

The Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Institute for Urban Affairs and Policy Studies offers four part-time (20 hours per week) Graduate Assistant positions. The positions are awarded to full-time students pursuing a Masters degree in the Public Administration program at the Graduate School at the College of Charleston. Graduate assistants are assigned to Dr. Arthur A. Felts, Institute Director.

Graduate Assistantships offer students an opportunity to apply their curricular principles in a professional setting. While working on the various Institute projects, GAs have the chance to network with public leaders in the region on an individual basis. Through conducting, analyzing and reporting research studies, Graduate Assistants are intricately involved in Institute projects. Various research projects allow GAs to gain in-depth knowledge in specific areas such as Crime, Education, Development, Economic Impact, Intergovernmental Relations, and Non-Profit Administration. In addition to research conducted, GAs attend numerous conferences and meetings to supplement their knowledge on the afformentioned topics.

Duties of Graduate Assistants:

  • Assume assigned responsibilities with regard to providing technical assistance and support for all research efforts concerning the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Institute for Urban Affairs and Policy Studies;

  • Perform research for application of state, federal, and private grant awards and assist in the writing of grant proposals;
