Introduction to Cougar Trail On The Web
2
What is it?
  • Cougar Trail on the Web is a computerized system that allows you to register for classes, adjust your schedule, view course information, pay your bill on-line and view personal and academic information such as grades, unofficial transcripts, and financial aid information by a computer from virtually anywhere in the world within Cougar Trail hours.
3
How do I log in?
  • System Security
  • All transactions have an electronic signature.  You are solely responsible for any transaction made through your Cougar Trail account.  Unauthorized access to Cougar Trail on the Web or tampering with other students’ academic records is a violation of federal and state law, and will subject the offender to severe disciplinary action.  Please report any suspected tampering to the Registrar’s Office immediately.

4
What is my CofC ID & PIN?

  • The first time you log in, your CofC ID will be your Social Security Number. Once logged in, your new CofC ID will be displayed.

  • Your PIN the first time you log in will be your 6-digit birthdate (MMDDYY). For example, if your birthdate is July 9, 1978, your initial login pin number would be 070978. You will be immediately prompted to change your PIN to a 6-digit number other than your birthdate.  You will then be required to log back in with your new PIN.

  • For first time users, make sure to set up your PIN Question and Answer. This option allows you to reset your PIN when you’ve forgotten it by correctly answering the PIN Question.

Troubleshooting Registration
  • If registration is not successful, you will receive a specific error message.
  • Error messages include the following:
  • “Prerequisite XX required”
  • “Time Conflict with XX”
  • “Student Not Admitted for Term” – contact the Registrar’s Office.
  • “Student Not Eligible to Register on the Web”—check your scheduled entry time.
  • “Student Not Eligible to Register”—you have a hold.  Check the HOLDS link to find out which office/department to contact.
  • “Permission by department/instructor needed”—contact the department of the course in which you are trying to enroll.
  • “Undergrads Need Permission”—an undergraduate student has selected a graduate course. If you need this course you must contact the department in which you are trying to enroll or the Office of Graduate Studies.
  • “Closed by Restriction”—the course requires a prerequisite such as class standing—SR, JR, SO, or FR or a specific major.  See the course catalog link for prerequisites.

37
Registration Holds
  • Cougar Trail will not allow you to register, view grades, or view your unofficial transcript if you have a hold on your account.  Holds can be placed for reasons such as unpaid library fines or past due balances.  Check the Holds link to find out which office you should contact.  Only the office that placed the hold can remove it.  Some holds are only lifted overnight, so please be cognizant and check before your registration entry time or before the time that you need to obtain a transcript or your grades.

38
Time Conflict
  • Cougar Trail on the Web prohibits scheduling courses with a time conflict.  The system will show you the time conflict, and you must select another course or another time.

39
Restricted Courses, Prerequisites and Co-requisites

  • Restricted Courses-Some courses require a particular class status (e.g. junior or senior) or a specific major.  If you attempt to register for such a course without the appropriate status, Cougar Trail on the Web will deny the request.  You may contact the academic department for assistance.
  • Prerequisites-Any time you attempt to register for a course, the system will check your request against your academic record.  If you have not satisfied the prerequisite, you will be unable to register for the course.  Please contact the academic department that offers the course for further assistance.
  • Co-requisites-To register for a course that requires a co-requisite (such as lecture and lab combinations), you must type in the call number for both courses using the Drop/Add link and click submit only after both call numbers have been entered.
