Online Seismograms in and near South Carolina The map above shows the location of seismic stations for which you can view seismograms online. The data from these and other seismometers are routinely used to locate and determine the magnitude of earthquakes in South Carolina. The seismic stations shown above are operated by three different agencies (see below). Click on links below and navigate to the seismic station to view the seismograms. USNSN - United State National Seismic Network View at: http://folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu/heli_bb_nsn/ CNNC - Cliffs of the Neuse, North Carolina GOGA - Godfrey, Georgia MYNC - Murphy, North Carolina NHSC - New Hope, South Carolina These seismic stations are operated by the US Geological Survey (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/) and form the "backbone" for earthquake recording within the USA. These seismograms are good for viewing moderate-sized earthquakes in South Carolina and neighboring states and large earthquakes worldwide. SCSN - South Carolina Seismic Network View at: http://scsn.seis.sc.edu/helicorders/index.html COW - Cow Castle Creek, South Carolina JSC - Jenkinsville, South Carolina LHS - Liberty Hill, South Carolina These seismic stations are operated by the South Carolina Seismic Network (http://scsn.seis.sc.edu/) and are good for viewing seismograms from small and moderate earthquakes within South Carolina. ANSS - Advanced National Seismic System View at: http://folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu/heli_k2/ ADSC - Addlestone School, West Ashley, Charleston C1SC - at The Citadel, near Hampton Park, Charleston C2SC - at The Citadel, near the Ashley River, Charleston TRSC - Trident Research Center, North Charleston These seismic stations are part of the Advanced National Seismic System (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/research/monitoring/anss/). They are strong ground motion instruments designed to record very strong earthquake shaking. If there is a large earthquake in the State of South Carolina these stations will give the best record. They will also record moderate earthquakes near Charleston very well.
