Founded in 1770 and chartered in 1785, the College of Charleston is the oldest institution of higher education in the state of South Carolina and the thirteenth oldest in the United States. Through the years our institution has grown from a school of twenty to a current enrollment of about 10,000 undergraduate students. The Student Government Association has represented those students based on the principles of Integrity, Honor, and Fidelity since our founding in 1922. College Graduates 1,600 in Historic Ceremony May 10, 2008 Approximately 1,600 students graduated from the College of Charleston in the 215th commencement ceremony. Business Administration was this year’s most popular major with 309 graduates. Communication was a close second with 264 graduates.
