SBE SCHOLARSHIPS

STANLEY A. SCHOTTLAND BUSINESS LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Stanley A. Schottland Business Leadership Award is presented annually to an outstanding senior at the School of Business and Economics who demonstrates exceptional leadership potential as well as academic excellence.  The purpose of this award is to identify and to nurture future U.S. business leaders. 

AWARD AMOUNT:

  • $5,000 upon graduation from the College of Charleston School of Business and Economics
  • Assistance in exploring employment with a participating company or another company chosen by the student and approved by the selection committee as an appropriate company to prepare the student for graduate business school.
  • $10,000 tuition payment to an accredited business school if student enters its graduate program after at least two years of employment in a participating or approved company.
  • Two awards of $1,000 each to the first and second runner-up finalists.

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be seniors who are U.S. citizens and will graduate in May 2008 with a major from the School of Business and Economics. Clear demonstration of leadership skills and an overall GPA of 3.2 or better are required.  We are seeking that individual with the potential to develop the progressive leadership skills necessary to foster innovation and excellence in the American business community.

APPLICATION PROCESS: The application packet will include the formal application form; a resumé which includes a list of extra-curricular activities, work, and volunteer experience; a current degree audit; three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a College of Charleston School of Business and Economics faculty member; an essay demonstrating your personal and academic motivation; and an essay explaining your post-undergraduate school plans including your graduate school choices.

AWARD REQUIREMENTS: The recipient must be committed to achieving success in at least two years of employment then completing a graduate business degree program. Upon completion of the employment and degree process, the recipient must be committed to preparing a final report for the School of Business and Economics and returning to the College of Charleston campus for a presentation(s).

SELECTION PROCESS: Selection will be made by committee and will include a personal interview.  The selection committee is looking for candidates who exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Highly motivated individuals demonstrating active leadership roles during their college careers
  • Highly proficient in oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrating outstanding ethical and moral character
  • Very personable and dynamic
  • Seeking a career in corporate business
  • Are American citizens
  • Willing to confirm that, if selected to receive the top award, will make a vigorous effort to achieve success in at least two years employment and complete a graduate degree program in business.
