New Science Center under construction
shovel for ground breakingGround breaking (see Photo Album for pictures) for the 125,000 square foot
new science center took place October 19th at 2:00pm. Due to inclement weather the ceremony was held at the Addlestone Library Stay tuned for web cam construction updates.

This new facility will eventually house the Departments of Chemistry/Biochemistry and Biology, and will feature a 150-seat auditorium, state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories, gathering areas for faculty and student interaction, and a large "greenspace" that will recall the walled gardens of Historic Charleston. Completion date is late Spring 2010.

Currently our single major science facility, the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center, was built in the 1970's and early 1980's to accommodate 5,000 students. Currently undergraduate and graduate enrollment at the College is approaching 11,000. As the College has grown and, more importantly, as scientific discovery and technology have leapt forward the Hollings Science Center simply cannot accommodate the demand for modern classrooms and laboratories.
