Teachers make all other professions possible, and recently, Maryland Governor Parris N. Glendening recognized the importance of the teaching profession when he said, "Our teachers have one of society's most critical jobs, and provide our children with hope, opportunities, and a brighter future each day."  Recognizing the important role of the teaching profession, a career in education offers individuals the opportunity for a challenging and rewarding career.

Because teachers are critically needed, many substantial loan and scholarship programs are available to offset college expenses, and salaries for teachers are increasing. Our gradates obtain good jobs with competitive salaries and some receive signing bonuses. Though the true rewards of teaching aren't monetary, teachers receive salaries that enable them to live comfortable lives. The work year for most teachers is 190 days, or about 10 months; however, today's teacher has flexibility. If a teacher desires, he or she can be employed year round and increase annual earnings.

We enthusiastically invite you to join our student-centered community of learners in the School of Education. With the need for improved student performance, the shortage of teachers, and our nation’s focus on health issues, this is indeed a very exciting and challenging time to be in education. Our students develop as leaders under the guidance of our diverse and talented faculty. Many substantial loan and scholarship programs are available to offset college expenses for those who commit to a career in teaching. Our graduates obtain good jobs with competitive salaries and enter challenging careers where they make a difference in the lives of others.

We welcome an opportunity to talk to you about your future. To learn more about our programs, explore our Website, visit us at 86 Wentworth Street, or call (843) 953-5613 to make an appointment.

Sincerely,
Frances C. Welch
