Sports and Recreation
It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s whether you get a tan.
College of Charleston students have never met a Frisbee they didn't like. Maybe it's the year-round sunshine, the beach in our backyard, the 10-acre city park next door or the free campus athletic facilities. Students are always up for a game – dodgeball, anyone? – and would rather spend an hour doing yoga than watching Oprah.
Campus Recreation Services is like the gym class of your dreams. The staff here organize flag football, kickball and midnight basketball leagues. They run weekend sea kayaking, hiking and climbing adventures. And they oversee 22 sports clubs in everything from competitive men's and women's Ultimate Frisbee, rugby and soccer to belly dancing, waterskiing and roller hockey.
On campus, the Johnson and Silcox Centers have basketball, volleyball and badminton courts, as well as an indoor track. The Stern Student Center boasts a 25-meter pool and a fitness facility with cardio and strength machines as well as free weights. And the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex is simply one of the best in the country.
Just down the road is the James Island County Park, where you can enjoy South Carolina's tallest outdoor climbing wall, run the winding trails or kayak in the lake. And the College is excited to announce a new partnership with the East Shore Athletic Club in which students can use any of the club's 11 Charleston-area facilities free with their student ID card.
